I’m on the Pavement Thinking About the Government
Stand Up and be Counted
You may recognize the title of this post as being a famous line from Bob Dylan’s song “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” My last post entitled “Home is Where the Heart Is” expressed my opinion that we all need to stop and smell the roses on occasion. I believe that we need to take that same approach when it comes to our government. We need to spend a little bit of time each week finding out who represents us and learn a little bit about politics. We can’t be experts on every subject, but I believe we need to know the basics about politics and how the people voted into office can effect our lives. A good resource for finding a lot of information about the government and politics is USA.gov. They have a link on their home page where you can enter your state and zip code and contact your Representative, Legislature, Governor, etc.. They also have a lot of other information about the government and resources that you can use from the government (food stamps, loans, housing, human services, jobs, etc.).
Take 10 minutes a week to learn something new about the government, who represents you, or how you can make a difference. I will be posting questions and answers on my blog about various political and social issues at times so check back here to learn little pieces of information about the government and social issues. Let’s turn around this collision course we have with complacency in this country and start making positive changes by us all taking baby steps in the right direction. We will all enjoy a much better country when everyone starts thinking about the government and how we can all make positive changes.
