What Can I Do About It?

We all know that global warming is going to be a huge issue for future generations. What can we do about it now? I plan on tackling environmental issues more in the future when I get more help and support from people like you, but for now here’s a few things you can do to help.

1. Recycle

Here’s the one thing everybody needs to do and have been told they need to do, yet a lot of people still aren’t doing. I only started recycling my plastics a few months ago! A friend of mine has a plastic chest of drawers that he divides his recycling into. I haven’t gotten as far as he has into the recycling, but try to start doing what I’m doing and recycle those orange juice, milk, and other plastic containers that you are just throwing into the earth right now.

2. Buy energy efficient appliances and vehicles

One passive way to help reduce your energy usage, if you can afford to of course, is to buy energy efficient appliances. I purchased an energy efficient washer and dryer and I’m using less energy and the units will pay for themselves after a few years. I also purchased a hybrid car and am getting about 45 miles/gallon right now which is pretty nice considering the cost of fuel. You’ll be helping the environment and saving money. That seems like a no-brainer to me.

3. Bring awareness to your family and friends

Here’s a tricky one. How do you get someone to change a habit without making them think that you think you are “holier than thou?” What I advise is that you don’t try to get them to change, just make them aware of what you’re doing to make the world a better place to live for future generations! If they see what you’re doing, and maybe you can slip in a mention of how easy it is, they will want to follow your lead. They will NEVER change because you tell them the way they’re doing it is wrong and they are killing the environment. Just nonchalantly mention some of the things you’re doing to help the environment and hopefully they will follow your lead or ask how they can help you some day.

That’s just three things you can do with little effort. If you have ideas of what I can do with this website in order to bring awareness or make changes, or if you would like to help in any capacity with this website or in making positive changes, please submit your ideas here.

An Attempt to Have Accountability in Politics

Who is your District Representative?

Do you pay taxes?

If you pay taxes, you should know who represents you. I go as far as to say that if you pay taxes, the people that represent you should tell YOU who they are! Not only that, they should send you a quarterly flier with their name and a URL to their homepage. On that homepage should be a list of what platform they ran on, what promises they made before getting elected, and then what they’ve actually done while in office!

Well that’s what I’m trying to get done and you can follow my progress on the Project “Elected Official Accountability” page of this website. You can view other projects I’ve completed and what I’m planning on pursuing in the future on the projects page as well.

I believe that everyone is interested in what’s happening in their community and what their tax dollars are being used for, however, who has the time to investigate these issues? If you read my post about why young people are scared of tying the knot, you can get a sense about how our culture is changing and people are barely finding time enough for their own families, let alone finding time to make changes in their community!

That’s where I come in. I’m fighting for everyone that doesn’t have time for these matters. If you’re reading this post, you obviously care about this issue, however, you just may not have the time to do anything about it! I want to bring the information to the people instead of letting politicians hide behind red tape, and that’s why I’ve started this project.

I’m sure this project will take a while so I am going to be looking to make other smaller changes in the meantime if I can find time. Hopefully as this site grows and I get more and more donations, I can continue to devote more time to these projects and maybe even donate to people like you to help me!

Help me change the world.

Visit My Projects Page

Like many of you, I am new at making social and political changes… even writing about them for that matter. In the past I caught myself thinking, “What can I do?.” I was afraid to voice my opinion and try to make changes. I believe that as we mature, there comes a time in your life when you either have to face reality, or continue to live in a naive world of fallacies. So what happens when you choose to face reality?

1. You Are Enlightened

When you face the truth, and accept the truth, you begin to appreciate the good and the bad of the truth. “Once you truly understand that life is difficult, it becomes easy.” Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled.

2. You Accept Responsibility

When you accept the truth, you must accept responsibility. When you face reality, you understand that you are responsible for what happens in your life. Yes, some things are left to chance, such as a meteor falling from the sky and hitting you in the head. But ultimately, the job you have, the relationships you have, the friends you have, are all conscious or subconscious decisions that you’ve made to be where you’re at today. Accepting responsibility for all of your actions, be they conscious or subconscious, raises your awareness and helps you take action and take control of the direction of your life.

3. You Must Take Action

Expanding on the previous paragraph, I believe your awareness is piqued by the fact that you are now facing the truth, and accepting responsibility. Once you completely face the truth and accept responsibility, you must take action. There’s really no other alternative. If you decided to retreat, the fact that you’ve already faced the truth and accepted responsibility would send your life into a variable roller coaster of ups and downs, always wondering “what could have been.”

What I’m Saying

I want us all to face reality.

I feel like I’ve chosen to face reality. I am in the position now where I must make changes for the better in our society. Our friends, family, and neighbors depend on us to stand up for their best interest and make things right. It’s people like us that have afforded our country the comforts that we are enjoying right now. I served in the US Infantry and was discharged in ‘98 before I had to serve overseas. I was lucky to not have to have fought in any wars or see atrocities and possibly have lost my life. We here in the States who have not lost anyone to wars should be very grateful to those that have sacrificed.

That’s why I’ve created a Projects page where I’ve started working on projects in my community in order to give everyone the opportunity to make positive changes in our society. I believe that as more people start to accept the truth or “face reality”, we will make many more positive changes in our society. Do what you can to accept the truth and accept your responsibilities. Visit the projects page or make a donation to this website so we can continue to make forward progress.
