People of the Lie

Bad People

What causes people to lie to themselves, lie to their friends, and lie to loved ones?  Are we as a society so out of touch with reality that we can’t even understand what it means to care about and love someone?  I don’t believe that the majority of mature people are out of touch but I’m afraid there are many young people like that out there.  Primarily because they are selfish.  I used to be very selfish, but if you read my post “What’s In It for Me,” you will see that I have changed my life.  By the way, the title of this post, “People of the Lie,” is a book by M. Scott Peck… a great psychologist, best known for his work, “The Road Less Traveled.”  I think everyone needs to read “The Road Less Traveled” at least twice.  So why are a lot of young people in our society so selfish and oblivious to what really matters in life?  Do I really need to answer that question?  Just read some of my own posts such as Why Young People are Scared of Tying the Knot, and you’ll get a sense of the detachment of our young culture from the things that really matter.

What can we do?  I believe that “supply and demand” will work things out in the end.  People with no sense of commitment or that live life in complete selfishness will eventually realize the err of their ways and will either change their lives or be miserable for the rest of their lives.  There’s really no alternative.  I just hope the People of the Lie realize the damage they are causing to other peoples lives before they do too much harm to people they come in contact with while on this earth.  Please do whatever you can to improve yourself and be honest with your friends, family and everyone you meet.  People truly deserve to know the truth and this world will be a much better place when people are honest with themselves, their friends, and their loved ones.  You have the power to change your life, your attitude, your actions, and how you treat people.  Make a decision right now to do the right thing for everyone in your life right now and in the future.

Conservatives and Normals

What Does That Even Mean?

I thought I would write a short post about the title of this website and what it means to me, and what it might mean to you. First, what this title should mean to you is up to you! Some people told me they thought that this website had something against conservatives, like conservatives weren’t normal, as if I was differentiating the two groups of people. Others told me that they thought it meant that the website was for conservatives and normal people, as if they were basically the same group of people. Well, what did you think the title of this website means? The choice is ultimately yours, but I will tell you what I had in mind…

I built a site where people can get together and discuss political and social issues, learn things about politics and social issues, and get a different perspective on these subjects, so what this website is called really doesn’t matter. I thought the title “Conservatives and Normals . Com” would at least be catchy and cause people to reflect on the title once they read it. To me, the only thing that the title of this website differentiates is politics and social or personal issues. When thinking about politics, we tend to group ourselves as “Conservatives,” liberals, independent, etc.. And when thinking about our personal preferences, personal and spiritual growth, family, friends, etc., we all think of ourselves as being “Normal.” This website is for everyone and doesn’t discriminate against all of the conservatives who aren’t normal. ;-)

What is a State Legislature?

And Why Should I Care?

There are a few names for the “State Legislature,” which is actually just a generic term for each states Legislative body. Some states call the body the “General Assembly,” some call it the “General Court,” while others call it the “Legislature” or “Legislative Assembly.”

Ultimately, the “legislature” is just a group of people in each state (about 7,500 people nationwide), that reside in “chambers” and make laws. All states except Nebraska have what is called a bicameral legislature, which means they consist of two chambers or “houses.” In most states that have a bicameral system, the smaller chamber is called the “Senate” and the larger chamber is called the “House of Representatives.” A few states call the larger chamber the “Assembly” or “House of Delegates.”

Why should you care?

You should care about your legislative body because these are the people that set checks and balances and make laws such as the matters that are introduced by your governor, or governator, if you live in California. Do you know what your governor is up to lately? Do you know which laws he’s trying to get passed that don’t make any sense? I believe each elected official should have a website which lists what they’re up to, and that’s a battle I’m going to fight to make happen as long as I possibly can. Businesses and other special interests lobby your legislative body in order to obtain favorable legislation. “Here you go Senator, now remember, that lake doesn’t have any endangered species now does it? Does IT.” You get the idea.

Hopefully this gives you a general idea about what a state legislature is and will give you a base to explore this topic even further. If you don’t like what your state is doing with its budget, what corporations are getting away with in your state, or you just want to make some positive changes, start asking your governor and state legislature to start doing the right thing!
